General Description


The STP was commissioned in 1975.

Sewerage Catchment:

  • Coniston outfall is the discharge point for the Wollongong STP which services the mainly residential area (with some industry) from Unanderra and Cringella in the south to the Wollongong CBD and Keiraville in the north.

Sewage Treatment:  

  • Wollongong STP has an activated sludge plant that uses a secondary treatment process (MHL769 1997).

Outfall:

  • The ocean outfall consists of a 900mm diameter submarine pipe extending approximately 200 m offshore of Coniston Beach with the diffuser in a water depth of 7 meters.
